Our Policy

It is for the governing board of a school to decide:

  • rules around appearance
  • whether there should be a school uniform policy and if so, what that should be
  • how the uniform should be sourced

These duties are placed upon all governing boards by statute to ensure that school policies promote good behaviour and discipline amongst the pupil body.

We strongly encourage schools to have a uniform as it can play a key role in:

  • promoting the ethos of a school
  • providing a sense of belonging and identity
  • setting an appropriate tone for education

So please search around for royal blue and gold uniform in local supermarkets. We do want out children to be smart and to have a positive sense of belonging to our school, but we are not insistent on uniform with our logos on it. We promote our uniform and want children to be prepared for secondary school. If your child has additional needs around sensory needs and types of clothing they can wear, please see Greg Pemberton our SENDCo on Greg.pemberton@potkiln.net. If you have financial concerns, we do have a uniform hub, where you can collect school uniform for no cost. This is stocked by the generosity of the families of our school. Please contact admin@potkiln.net  if you need support in this area.

The Department of Education states:

This non-statutory guidance will help support schools in developing and implementing their school uniform policy. It should be read alongside the statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms.

Some schools, or year groups within schools, may not have a uniform policy or dress code, in which case some aspects of this guidance may not be relevant. We would, however, expect governing boards to consider this guidance, to ensure that they comply with their obligations under the Human Rights Act 1998and the Equality Act 2010.

The term ‘governing board’ in this guidance includes the:

  • board of trustees for an academy trust
  • governing body of a maintained school or non-maintained special school
  • local authority for pupil referral units

Throughout this guidance, ‘parents’ should be taken to include all those with parental responsibility, including guardians and carers.

Early Help

Effective early help relies upon us all working together, providing local support as soon as a problem arises at any point in a child’s life, from early years through to the teenage years and into early adulthood. Providing early help is more effective in promoting the welfare of children than reacting later. By identifying emerging problems, sharing information with other professionals and targeting assessed needs, positive outcomes for children, young people and their families are increased.

What do we mean by Early Help?

Early help is about stopping problems escalating. It relies on accurate early identification of difficulties and early action which is targeted and evaluated. It can involve intensive intervention or lighter touch support and is usually based on a clear support plan, with identified actions, responsibilities and outcomes, which is then reviewed.

Early help is a form of targeted activity, with a specific action or actions being put in place to address a defined issue or combination of issues. It therefore forms part of a continuum of activity in supporting families.

What does Early Help look like at Pot Kiln Primary School?
